Pray For The President

In these past few days since the elections, I’ve had to cry to God a few times to “get a grip” on the results.  I have felt more angry at the state of our country than about who was actually chosen.   How have we veered so far from our values and our faith in God?  Why did so many people choose not to step out and vote?

At one point, God boldly reminded me that He was still in control no matter who became the next president.  This is all part of His plan.  We can’t doubt that.  He will always be in control through the difficult times we may face in the future and, what seems to be approaching, the challenges of the end times.  If the end times are around the corner as many believe, this may be an inevitable path we must follow.

I wanted to share with you, below, the devotional for November 7th from the Presidential Prayer Team.  Instead of fearing or fighting what lies ahead, we need to be in prayer for our president and for our country.

Powerful Servant
When William Henry Harrison was elected in 1840, he had many wonderful plans for America. He had so many ideas to share, in fact, that his inauguration speech was the longest in history – an hour and forty five minutes. Unfortunately, inauguration day dawned to bitter cold and snow, and President Harrison wasn’t properly dressed for the weather. He soon became ill, and died of pneumonia just a month after being sworn in.
In retrospect, Harrison should have begun his speech with, “If the Lord wills …” because he was ultimately unable to fulfill any of his campaign promises.
You ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
James 4:15

Today, roughly half of Americans woke up happy, the other half discouraged. Regardless of which category you fall into, remember that the course of your life over the next four years will be determined by the Lord, not the election. Pray for the president – his position is an important one. But pray also that God will use you to impact America. You are not an insignificant pawn subject to the whims of a politician…but a powerful servant subject to the will of God.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The election is behind us and it’s time to stop our complaining and whining.  Although we have to live in this world, we don’t need to be of this world.  God is our ultimate master.  It is our heavenly kingdom we need to focus on, not the kingdom that politicians create. Saying that, though, we are still Biblically called to honor the authority God has placed in this world.

Romans 13:1-2 “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.  The authorities that exist have been established by God.  Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.”

I encourage you to pray for President Obama regardless of how you feel about him or his policies.  I recently read an article stating that he was spending more time with his Bible than before.  That certainly gives me great hope.  We don’t know what God has planned for him or for our country.  My prayer for President Obama is that God will touch his heart and that he will do right in the eyes of God, according to His will.
